Sage Ecogardens & Nursery is so much more than a place to buy seeds, plants and fertilizer. Known to old-timers as The Garden Craft Shop when it opened in 1956, the site has horticulture and community significance: it’s the oldest existing independent retail nursery on this part of the Central Coast. The Los Osos landmark got a new name and new owners in 2008, and with it, a fabulous renovation—one that now showcases California-friendly plants that conserve water and do well with minimal maintenance.

Visitors can stroll through Sage’s relaxing and sustainable display gardens, replete with landscape lighting, ponds and decorative stone. And see plants that thrive best in our planet’s five climates, including California native, Australian and Chilean. Nostalgic garden choices are also available, such as camellias, hydrangeas and bamboo.
